After taking this class, you will be able to explain the difference between sparkling wine and Champagne. We will discuss the different origins of the bubbles in sparkling wine and how they are infused and explain characteristics of sparkling wines from around the world. You will be able to explain the difference between sweet and fortified wines and the methods that produce them. We will discuss the characteristics of German sweet wines and distinguish characteristics of French Sauternes and Barsac. We will explain how and why wine is fortified and discuss the different types of Port, Madeira, Marsala, and Sherry. You must be 21 years old to enroll in this class.

After taking this class, you will be able to discuss white grapes and explain where the grapes for these wines are grown and describe the flavor and aroma profiles of wines made from these grapes such as Sauvignon Blanc, Pinot Grigio/Gris. We will discuss the places that the Chardonnay grape is grown, describe Chardonnay wine and talk about other names for wine made from Chardonnay grapes. We will discuss the flavors and aromas that a new wine drinker might encounter when tasting wine made from Chardonnay grapes. You must be 21 years old to enroll in this class.

After taking this class, you will be able to describe the red wines produced by the Pinot Noir and Gamay, Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot grapes and explain the differences and similarities between Syrah and Shiraz and Zinfandel wines. Discuss red wines made in Burgundy, France and other places Pinot Noir grapes are grown. We will discuss the red wines made in Beaujolais, France and describe the flavor and aroma profile of Pinot Noir and Gamay wines. We will also discuss the Bordeaux region, including the Left and the Right Banks and 1855 Classification system and identify other places that the Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot grapes grow. You must be 21 years old to enroll in this class.
